Greetings Pack 438!

This year's focus in the Cub Scout Program is on the 12 Core Values of Scouting, each month our Den and Pack guides will reference one or more of the following:

1. Citizenship:  Contributing service and showing responsibility to local, state, and national communities.

2. Compassion: Being kind and considerate, and showing concern for the well-being of others.

3. Cooperation: Being helpful and working together with others toward a common goal.

4. Courage: Being brave and doing what is right regardless of our fears, the difficulties, or the consequences.

5. Faith: Having inner strength and confidence based on our trust in God.

6. Health and Fitness: Being personally committed to keeping our minds and bodies clean and fit.

7. Honesty: Telling the truth and being worthy of trust.

8. Perseverance: Sticking with something and not giving up, even if it is difficult.

9. Positive Attitude: Being cheerful and setting our minds to look for and find the best in all situations.

10. Resourcefulness: Using human and other resources to their fullest.

11. Respect: Showing regard for the worth of something or someone.

12. Responsibility: Fulfilling our duty to God, country, other people, and ourselves.

We started off the new School and Scouting year in September with Cooperation. Looking back over the summer, it took quite a bit of cooperation to get the new Pack off the ground. While we had a number of individuals working hard behind the scenes to charter the pack and iron out the schedules, we all worked together for one common goal. Rally Night was also a great example of cooperation, watching the Scouts meet each other and the parents working together to form new dens.  If you take an overall look at the Scouting program, it's not only about personal accomplishments, but also about working, learning and growing together as a Pack.  It even says it in the Law of the Pack, "The pack helps the Cub Scout grow."  The handbooks tell us, "You can have fun when you are part of the pack. Learn things from others. Do things with them."

"No one can whistle a symphony. It takes an orchestra to play it." H.E. Luccock

Pack 438 has been blessed with a large group of enthusiastic Scouts and supportive parents, let's keep the spirit of cooperation going throughout the year. With such a large group, events such as Pack Meetings and camping can be a challenge, but if we work together, make it fun and focus on the core values, we'll be successful in building strong values for our Scouts and creating new friendships.

"We are most effective as a team when we compliment each other without embarrassment and disagree without fear." Unknown
